League City's Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center will close Monday, Aug. 31, for about three weeks while crews upgrade the park's restroom and bird blinds.
Parks Operations crews plan to replace the existing bathroom with a larger unit and rebuild all three bird blinds along the 1.3-mile concrete trail, according to a city announcement. The 148-acre park at 1220 North Egret Bay Blvd. is expected to reopen Monday, Sept. 21, or sooner if work finishes ahead of schedule.
The park normally operates 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
The city describes the nature center, which sits on the south shore of Clear Creek, as excellent habitat for migratory birds. The site protects riparian coastal flatwoods and estuarine wetland habitats and includes picnic tables, a pavilion, a Monarch waystation and a pollinator garden.
League City acquired the land in 2005 with funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Galveston County and the Galveston Bay Estuary Program. The League City Parks and Recreation Department operates the facility.
Earlier this year, the city solicited public input through its League City Listens platform on what upgrades residents wanted at the nature center. Whether that input process led to the current projects has not been confirmed.
