Clear Falls holds the fourth spot in District 18-6A with three weeks left in the regular season. The Knights host Clear Springs at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in a game that could reshape the playoff picture for both League City programs.

The Knights are 2-1 in district and 3-3 overall after winning two straight, according to MaxPreps. Clear Falls beat Clear Brook 52-21 on Sept. 25 and Clear Lake 58-21 on Oct. 2 to climb into the fourth seed. Their lone district loss came at Barbers Hill, 44-17, on Sept. 18.

Clear Springs enters the Oct. 16 game needing a turnaround. The Chargers are 1-2 in district and 2-4 overall, sitting fifth in the standings. A two-game losing streak, including a 59-7 loss at Dickinson on Sept. 25 and a 38-21 loss at Deer Park on Oct. 2, dropped them out of the top four. Their one district win came against Clear Creek, 23-21, on Sept. 18.

A loss Oct. 16 would leave Clear Springs at 1-3 in district with three games remaining. A win would pull the Chargers even with Clear Falls at 2-2 and create a logjam in the middle of the standings.

Three teams sit atop the district at 3-0 in league play. That means the fourth spot in the standings is the most attainable target for both Clear Falls and Clear Springs, and the head-to-head Oct. 16 separates a team in control from a team needing help.

Clear Creek faces the steepest climb. The Wildcats are 0-3 in district and 1-5 overall, according to their MaxPreps schedule. Losses to Clear Springs (23-21), Barbers Hill (65-13) and Dickinson (49-6) have the Wildcats on a three-game skid. Clear Creek travels to Deer Park on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.

Clear Creek needs to win out.

The Post Newspaper reported that every area team enters this stretch with "at least a glimmer of postseason hope." For the Wildcats, that glimmer requires four straight district wins starting with a road game at Deer Park.
