League City residents can drop off outdated or unneeded prescription medications for free on Oct. 24 at police headquarters, 555 W. Walker St.
The League City Police Department is participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. LCPD officers and volunteers will operate a drive-thru setup so residents can hand off medications without leaving their vehicles.
According to the department's announcement, only medications from individual residents will be accepted. Businesses and clinics cannot participate. Sharps of any kind will not be collected.
The DEA coordinates the collection twice a year at sites across the country. During the most recent Take Back Day in April 2026, more than 4,400 collection sites gathered 642,410 pounds of prescription drugs. The program has collected more than 10,500 tons of medications since it began.
The DEA describes the program as a way to dispose of prescription drugs safely while educating the public about the potential for medication misuse.
