Dinah Carpenter, a project manager and 12-year League City resident, filed Aug. 13 to run for City Council Position 1, joining paramedic Robert Bruce in a race where incumbent Andy Mann has not yet filed for re-election.

Carpenter's ballot application, accepted the same day by the City Secretary's Office, lists her residence on Salt Marsh Court. She paid the $50 filing fee and had her voter registration verified.

Her entry came four days before the Aug. 17 filing deadline at 5 p.m., making her the newest named candidate in the Position 1 contest.

Bruce, who lists a Dickinson address on his July 21 application, filed first for the seat. Mann's term expires in November, but no application from the incumbent appears in the city's online document center as of Aug. 14. The League City Herald was unable to confirm with the City Secretary's Office whether Mann intends to file before the deadline.

Five seats on the November ballot

The Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election covers five at-large seats: mayor, and council positions 1, 2, 6 and 7. All carry four-year terms.

Mayor Nick Long filed for re-election on July 20. Council member Tom Crews filed Aug. 4 to challenge Long, a move that under the city charter constituted an automatic resignation from his Position 3 seat. A separate special election filing window for Position 3 closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

In Position 6, banker Sean Doyle filed July 20 to challenge incumbent Chad Tressler. Incumbent Sean Saunders, a captain and paramedic, filed the same day to seek re-election to Position 7.

How to file

Residents interested in running have until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17 to submit applications at the City Secretary's Office, 300 West Walker St., or by email to [email protected]. The filing fee is $50 for council seats and $100 for mayor. Candidate packets are available at leaguecitytx.gov.

If no candidate wins a majority Nov. 3, a runoff is scheduled for Dec. 12.
