Clear Falls visits Dickinson at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 for a District 18-6A volleyball match that will test whether the Knights can reverse a rough start to league play.

The Knights enter at 1-4 in district and 14-16 overall, according to MaxPreps. Dickinson sits at 4-1 after sweeping Deer Park 25-19, 25-21, 25-13 on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as reported by the Galveston County Daily News.

Clear Falls needs a win to keep pace in the district standings.

Knights searching for answers

Clear Falls has won just once in five district matches. Clear Creek beat the Knights 25-18, 20-25, 25-15, 25-21 on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Carlisle Field House. Four days earlier, fellow League City school Clear Springs swept Clear Falls 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) on Friday, Sept. 18.

In that Clear Springs loss, middle hitters L. Woods (eight kills, .500 hitting percentage, four blocks) and B. Dalecky (eight kills, .381 hitting percentage) led the Knights' attack, per MaxPreps. Head coach A. Williams will need similar production against a Dickinson front line that has won four of five district matches despite needing five sets in most of them.

Dickinson's finishing power

The Lady Gators' Deer Park sweep was their first district match this season that did not go five sets. In their previous four district contests, Dickinson needed all five frames each time, including a Sept. 15 win over Clear Creek (25-15, 26-24, 23-25, 21-25, 15-9).

Against Deer Park, Bailey Whitten led with 13 kills, Rebecca Ajong added 11 and Diana Douglas chipped in seven. Setter Angela Allen dished 19 assists, Raven Wade contributed 17 assists and four aces, and Isla Chazaro anchored the back row with 12 digs.

Dickinson head coach Kati Farias told the Galveston County Daily News after the Tuesday, Sept. 22 Deer Park sweep that consistency has been the focus.

"It's a matter of being consistent with being aggressive … When we're firing on all cylinders and being aggressive, it's hard to beat us," Farias said.

The Lady Gators were 13-0 before district play began, according to a Dickinson ISD post on Sept. 11.

Matchup to watch

Dickinson's attack runs through Ajong and Whitten. Ajong posted 25 kills against Clear Creek on Sept. 15. Whitten collected 18 kills in that same five-setter and 13 against Deer Park.

Clear Falls will need its middle blockers to disrupt that rhythm. Woods and Dalecky showed they can produce against quality opponents in the Clear Springs match.

First serve is 4:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Dickinson High School.
