Clear Springs opens the 2026 football season for League City's three high schools Friday, Aug. 21, traveling to Atascocita for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff. Clear Creek and Clear Falls follow the next week, giving fans across the area three programs to track in the newly configured District 18-6A.
All three squads enter the season in different positions. The Chargers and Knights made the playoffs in 2025. The Wildcats did not.
Here's what to expect from each program.
Clear Springs Chargers
Head coach Anthony Renfro's squad went 7-4 last fall and earned a playoff berth before falling to Summer Creek in the bi-district round. Renfro was named the Houston Texans Coach of the Week in September 2025, according to CCISD Athletics.
The Chargers lost 16 of 19 all-district selections to graduation, so 2026 is a rebuild year on paper. Junior running back Darrien Moore, who posted roughly 400 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore to earn second-team all-district honors, is expected to carry a heavier load. Junior Jaxon Weber steps into the starting quarterback role, with tight end Koltyn Hutto as a primary target, according to VYPE Houston's preseason preview.
Seniors Elisha Rambo and Kaden Corpus anchor the defense.
VYPE projects Clear Springs as a playoff contender in the district, behind favorites Dickinson and Barbers Hill.
Next up: Friday, Aug. 21, at Atascocita, 4:30 p.m. Then Friday, Aug. 28, at Dobie (Houston), 7 p.m. The Chargers' home opener is Friday, Sept. 4, against Heights at 7 p.m.
Clear Falls Knights
Coach Zach Head's program has made seven consecutive playoff appearances. The Knights went 7-3 in the 2025 regular season before their postseason ended against C.E. King, the eventual 6A Division II state finalist.
The biggest offseason loss: quarterback Kyden Barker, who passed for 3,335 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2025, earned District 24-6A Offensive MVP honors and signed with the University of Tulsa. Replacing that production is the Knights' central challenge, according to the Houston Chronicle's best athletes project.
Defense should be the strength. Senior linebackers Tristan Gaviria and Briggs Worthington each topped 120 tackles last season, earning second-team all-district nods. Senior lineman James Peralta rounds out the front.
VYPE lists Clear Falls as "on the cusp" of the district playoff picture.
Next up: Friday, Aug. 28, home vs. Pearland, 7 p.m. Then Thursday, Sept. 3, at Kingwood, 7 p.m. District play opens Friday, Sept. 18, at Barbers Hill.
Clear Creek Wildcats
Head coach Dwayne Lane faces the steepest climb. The Wildcats finished 3-7 in 2025, placing sixth in the district and missing the postseason.
The offense will lean on running backs J'shon Parks and Luke Rose, a tandem Lane hopes can control the clock and shorten games. Defensively, senior edge rusher Jake Roberts sets the tone up front, per VYPE's preview.
Next up: Thursday, Aug. 27, home vs. Kingwood, 7 p.m. Then Thursday, Sept. 3, at Memorial (Houston), 7 p.m. The Wildcats' first district game is Friday, Sept. 18, at Clear Springs at 7 p.m.
The district picture
The 2026-27 UIL realignment placed all three League City schools in District 18-6A alongside Dickinson, Barbers Hill, Deer Park, Clear Lake and Clear Brook. District play begins Sept. 18 for all three programs, and the first all-League City matchup comes that same night when Clear Creek visits Clear Springs.
