League City residents can pick up free groceries without leaving their cars at two Galveston County Food Bank mobile distributions in August, starting Thursday, Aug. 13.
The first event at Walter Hall Park, 807 Hwy 3 N, begins at 8 a.m. The LC Lions Club hosts that site. A second distribution follows Friday, Aug. 21 at Chester Davis Sports Plex, 1251 W. League City Pkwy, organized by League City United Methodist Church with staging beginning at 10 a.m.
Both are drive-thru only. Recipients stay in their vehicles, and registration is handled onsite with no advance sign-up required.
The food bank said in an Aug. 10 Instagram post that any Galveston County resident who meets federal income guidelines or has an emergency need can receive food at any mobile location, regardless of which city they live in.
Residents heading to the Aug. 13 event should double-check the start time before leaving home. The food bank's updated August calendar, revised Aug. 8, confirms an 8 a.m. start and notes the time "was previously 9am." The food bank's website and social media pages carry the latest schedule.
Both Walter Hall Park and Chester Davis Sports Plex are recurring monthly sites. They appeared on the July calendar as well, serving League City on July 9 and July 17.
League City UMC, at 1601 W. League City Pkwy, also operates a standing food pantry on the first and third Fridays of each month from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in partnership with the food bank. The Aug. 21 mobile distribution at Chester Davis Sports Plex is a separate, larger-scale event open to anyone in need.
Locations are subject to change without notice. The full August distribution schedule, published in English and Spanish, is available on the Galveston County Food Bank's website under the "Help" tab.
