Sheriff Jimmy Fullen fired a Galveston County deputy on Monday, Sept. 21, after reviewing video that showed the deputy tailgating another vehicle and blocking traffic in a marked patrol car.

The sheriff's office serves League City and other communities in Galveston County. The video, which circulated on social media before the Monday announcement, captured the deputy following another car at close range and driving between lanes in a way that blocked other motorists from passing, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Fullen called the behavior "inappropriate, unacceptable and inconsistent with the standards expected of every member of the Galveston County Sheriff's Office."

The deputy has been relieved of law enforcement duties and is no longer employed by the agency, according to the sheriff's office.

Fullen did not name the deputy. He declined to answer additional questions about the deputy's employment, telling the Chronicle that more information would be released as the investigation progresses.

KGTX 7 reported it had reached out to the sheriff's office to learn the deputy's identity. No name had been released as of Monday.

The location and date of the driving incident have not been disclosed. The sheriff's office has not announced a timeline for releasing further details.
