Good Vibes Coastal Cantina shut its doors in League City on Sunday, Sept. 27, after a lease dispute left ownership unable to keep either location open.
The League City restaurant and its Pearland sister concept, Good Vibes Coastal Kitchen, both closed the same day. Staff learned they were out of jobs that afternoon, according to the Houston Chronicle, which first reported details of the closure.
A management email sent to Pearland employees at 12:02 p.m. Sunday blamed the shutdown on a failed lease negotiation. Ownership said it had spent weeks trying to restructure the Pearland lease but reached an impasse with the landlord, accusing the property owner of refusing to pay for mandatory structural, electrical and Fire Marshal repairs.
Losing the Pearland location eliminated the company's combined purchasing power and shared vendor contracts between the two restaurants. Without those economies, management said it could not sustain the League City Cantina either.
A separate letter dated Sept. 27 was posted to the League City restaurant's door. It stated the restaurant had closed without notice or communication to the landlord, in violation of lease obligations, Community Impact Newspaper reported. It is unclear whether the landlord or the restaurant's own management posted that letter.
"We were all blindsided," one anonymous server told the Chronicle.
On Friday, Sept. 25, the Pearland location was still listed as a participant in Pearland Restaurant Weeks for October 2026, according to Houston Food Finder. Good Vibes posted a thank-you message on social media Sept. 27, praising staff who worked the restaurant's final hours.
The ownership group's identity has not been publicly disclosed. No reopening plans or next steps for the League City space have been announced as of Monday, Sept. 28.
