Helen Hall Library will screen movies for adults on the first Friday of each month this fall, starting with "Practical Magic" on Friday, Sept. 4.

The new series, called Friday Night Flicks, begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Library Theater at 100 W. Walker St. Screenings are for ages 18 and older.

The full lineup:

  • Friday, Sept. 4 — "Practical Magic"
  • Friday, Oct. 2 — "Twilight"
  • Friday, Nov. 6 — "The Notebook"
  • Friday, Dec. 4 — "Four Christmases"

The library promoted the series in its Aug. 20 newsletter under a "Don't Miss This" heading, encouraging residents to enjoy movies with fellow movie lovers. The city's event calendar lists the end time as 8 p.m., while the library's homepage lists 8:30 p.m. Residents may want to confirm the end time before attending.

Friday Night Flicks joins a growing slate of adult programming at Helen Hall Library. The library's social media accounts show offerings this fall including Adult Writers Club, Manga and Matcha, Bob Ross Painting Tutorials and Board Games.

The same week as the first screening, the library is hosting Adult Writers Club on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Adult Crafts to-Go on Thursday, Sept. 3, and Manga and Matcha on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 7 to 8 p.m., according to the library's newsletter.

Helen Hall Library reports 153,093 annual visitors and 891 programs each year on its website. The library will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day and reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8.
