League City is now one of only six Texas cities to hold every state creative-industry certification after earning its Digital Media Friendly designation Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The Governor's Economic Development and Tourism Office announced the designation, which completed what the state calls a "Grand Slam." League City now holds all four Friendly Texas certifications: Music Friendly, Tourism Friendly, Film Friendly and Digital Media Friendly.
Only five other cities have done it.
The Texas Economic Development office said on X that League City is the sixth city to reach the milestone.
What the designation means
The Digital Media Friendly Texas program, run by the Texas Film Commission, connects certified communities with companies and professionals in animation, visual effects, video games and extended reality. More than 100 Texas cities are working toward the same certification, according to the program's state website.
To qualify, League City had to name an official digital media liaison, send staff to a Film Commission workshop, register local digital media resources in the state's production directory and form a committee of at least three local industry stakeholders.
Mayor Nick Long called the designation "a terrific way to highlight the economic benefits digital media industries, whether it be video games, visual effects, or extended reality, can provide for our city."
"We're excited to work with the Texas Film Commission to showcase our existing digital media professionals while simultaneously attracting more to our community," Long said in a city statement.
State Rep. Greg Bonnen, who represents League City in House District 24, said League City "has clearly demonstrated the talent and drive to compete in Texas' rapidly growing digital media industry."
A year of certifications
League City collected its four designations over roughly a year. The city already held its Music Friendly certification when it earned Tourism Friendly status on Oct. 22, 2025, through the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Film Friendly designation followed on Sept. 17.
The digital media certification, announced Oct. 7, sealed the Grand Slam less than three weeks later. While more than 200 Texas communities hold the Film Friendly label, only six have completed the full set of four.
No next steps or follow-up events tied to the designation have been announced.
