League City is certified to welcome film and television crews after the Texas Film Commission granted the city its Film Friendly Texas designation on Monday, Sept. 21.

The certification makes League City one of the few Texas cities to hold all three state community designations: Music Friendly, Tourism Friendly and Film Friendly. State Rep. Dennis Paul called the combination the "Triple Crown" of state certifications.

Production companies scouting Texas locations will find League City listed in the Texas Film Commission's database. That exposure could steer spending on lodging, catering, transportation and local hires into the city's economy, according to the commission.

Mayor Nick Long pointed to the city's historic district and parks as potential filming locations. "League City offers a diverse range of locations that can help bring stories to life," Long said in a city announcement. "We look forward to showcasing our city to new audiences while creating additional opportunities for our local businesses, residents, and economy."

To earn the certification, League City had to complete a four-step process: appoint an official liaison with local government, attend a Texas Film Commission workshop, pass enforceable filming guidelines and submit photos of at least five filming locations.

More than 200 Texas communities already hold the Film Friendly designation. Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that the program prepares communities to support media production and create jobs by spurring on-site spending at local businesses.

Statewide, the film industry carries real economic weight. Since the incentive program's 2007 launch through August 2025, Texas Film Commission-supported projects have spent $2.9 billion locally and created more than 200,000 positions for Texas production workers, according to the commission, whose figures were cited in a March 2026 independent study it commissioned.

A separate case study in the report found that on one mid-sized production, 57% of below-the-line spending flowed to non-film businesses, including construction, real estate and professional services.

League City received its Tourism Friendly Texas certificate at a City Council meeting in December 2025. The city's Music Friendly designation date is not in public records.

State Rep. Greg Bonnen, whose District 24 includes League City, said the certification gives the city another opportunity to attract investment. League City will receive ongoing training from the Texas Film Commission on how to handle on-location productions.
