Free live folk music returns to League City's Historic District on Friday, Sept. 25, when League Park hosts the next edition of Music in the Historic District.
The monthly acoustic music series, co-hosted by the League City Folk Association and the League City Historical Society, runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at League Park, 512 Second St. Admission is free, and the event is family-friendly.
The evening starts an hour early with Pickin' on Second, a bluegrass song circle that begins at 6 p.m. League City Folk Association co-founder Tucker Hart told KGTX 7 News in August that a Southern-style bluegrass group leads the circle before the main show. "You can jump in at any time, and everyone sings along and plays with you," he said.
The official program at 7 p.m. features acoustic singer-songwriter performances. At the August edition, seven performers played 1960s- and 1970s-style folk music for the crowd, according to KGTX 7's coverage.
Hart told KGTX 7 in August that the series grew out of a desire to rebuild community connections after the pandemic and to draw attention to the Historical Society's work in the district. He said friendships formed at the monthly gatherings have carried over into families spending time together outside the event.
The League City Folk Association, the City of League City, Visit League City and the League City Historical Society have partnered to present the series, according to the Historical Society's event page. The event is held monthly.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food, beverages and a chair, according to the city's event calendar.
Musicians interested in performing sign up at noon on the first Sunday of each month, per KGTX 7's August coverage. More information is available through the League City Folk Association's Facebook page.
The next edition after Friday's gathering is scheduled for Oct. 30 at League Park.
