League City Parks and Recreation has launched a weekly adaptive pickleball program at the League City Community Center, open to players of all physical abilities and experience levels.

The Adaptive Pickleball program runs every Tuesday from 4 to 4:45 p.m. at the community center, 400 S. Kansas Ave., the Bay Area Entertainer reported. The department began promoting the sessions on its Facebook page on Sept. 14.

Drop-in play costs $1 for League City residents and $2.50 for non-residents. An Adaptive Membership option is also available. No experience is required.

Pickleball uses a smaller court than tennis, which the department says makes it approachable for beginners. The adaptive format is built around movement, recreation and social connection, giving residents who might not participate in traditional league play a chance to get on the court.

City expanding pickleball options

The adaptive program fits into a broader push by League City to grow its pickleball offerings. At a City Council work session in July, Parks & Cultural Services Director Chien Wei presented a reinvestment plan for Walter Hall Park that included pickleball courts and practice areas among proposed amenities, according to council records.

The Walter Hall Park proposal signals the city sees long-term demand for the sport beyond a single weekly session. Wei's presentation listed pickleball alongside other reinvestment priorities for the park.

The adaptive program is ongoing. Schedules and details are available through League City Parks and Recreation.
