Helen Hall Library will hold its second annual Baby Con on Saturday, Oct. 3, offering families with children from birth through age 3 free workshops and early childhood resources.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, 100 W. Walker St. in League City. No registration requirement is listed on the city's event calendar. Admission is free.
More than half of League City families have children under 18, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Helen Hall Library is Galveston County's first Family Place Library, a designation awarded by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission that funds staff training and programs focused on early learning and school readiness.
The library described Baby Con as strictly educational. In a Sept. 12 Instagram post, the library said the event features "only educational and medical resources" and is not a sales event.
Anchor Point, a League City nonprofit at 103 Davis Road that has focused on parenting education since 2010, is a confirmed participant. Its Eventbrite listing for Baby Con says attendance counts toward the five classes families need to qualify for a free baby shower through the organization. No other participating groups have been publicly listed.
Children's and family programs at Helen Hall Library are held in the theater unless otherwise noted. Groups, organizations and daycares cannot be accommodated in library programs, according to the city's listing. Families with questions can call the library at (281) 554-1111. Group tours of the children's section can be arranged by contacting Kate Guynn at [email protected].
Baby Con falls on a busy Saturday for League City. The city's October events list also includes the Village Fair Music Festival from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at The Ballpark at League City and Shakespeare in the Park from 7 to 9 p.m. at League Park.
The library also runs Babies and Books, a weekly Wednesday program for pre-walking babies and their caregivers featuring rhymes, stories and songs. Two sessions are offered: 10:15 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to noon. The next session is Wednesday, Oct. 7.
