League City's October lineup starts with a milestone: the Village Fair Music Festival turns 70.
The two-day festival runs Friday, Oct. 2, from 5–10 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m.–10 p.m. at The Ballpark at League City. Tickets are $15. Friday night features DJ Dash Gordon, Scotty Alexander and New Orleans party band Bag of Donuts.
Saturday's lineup builds through School of Rock, Rock N Classic, the Folk Association, A-Sure Thing and Big Jordan before Houston-based Stevie Nicks tribute band Night Bird takes the stage, CultureMap Houston reported. Country artist Easton Corbin closes out Saturday night as headliner. A Kids Zone offers bounce houses and a petting zoo.
Also on Oct. 3: Baby Con runs 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at Helen Hall Library, and Shakespeare in the Park takes over League Park from 7–9 p.m.
National Night Out: Oct. 6
The League City Police Department hosts National Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6–9 p.m. in participating neighborhoods. The annual event connects officers with the communities they serve, and police plan to visit all registered locations, according to the city's announcement. The deadline to register a neighborhood was Friday, Sept. 25.
Harvest Festival and stargazing: Oct. 10
Saturday, Oct. 10, packs three events into one day. The Harvest Festival returns to League Park from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Past editions have featured artisan vendors, kids' crafts, games, pumpkin carving and hayrides, according to Community Impact. The League City Historical Society's Punkin' Parade lets children in costumes decorate bikes, scooters and wagons for a march from the One Room Schoolhouse Museum to League Park.
That evening, Astronomy in the Park runs 6–9:30 p.m. at Rustic Oaks Park, 5101 Orange Blossom Ct. A Plant Swap & Shop at the Civic Center rounds out the morning, 8 a.m.–noon.
Halloween, safety and music close the month
The Spooktacular Bash: Kids Night at the Rec brings Halloween fun to the Community Center on Friday, Oct. 23, from 5:30–9 p.m.
The next morning, the League City Police Department hosts a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Drug Takeback on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at 555 W. Walker Street. Residents can drop off unused or expired medications. Day of the Dog & Cat follows that afternoon, 5–8 p.m. at League City Animal Care.
October wraps with Music in the Historic District on Friday, Oct. 30, from 7–9:30 p.m. at League Park. The free acoustic series is a partnership among the League City Folk Association, the city, Visit League City and the League City Historical Society. Bring a chair and your own food, according to the series organizers.
Civic calendar
A Blood Drive runs Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Civic Center. City Council meets Oct. 13 and Oct. 27, both at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The full events list is posted on the city's website.
