The auto shop at 400 Highway 3 S. that League City drivers have known as Muff-It Muffler for 41 years has new owners and a new name: League City Auto & Muffler.

The ownership change appeared in the city's business brief published Tuesday, Aug. 25, and was reported by Community Impact. The new owners have not been publicly identified.

League City Auto & Muffler's website lists routine maintenance, diagnostics, exhaust and muffler work and major vehicle repairs among its offerings, according to Community Impact. The expanded menu goes beyond the exhaust-focused niche the shop occupied for decades.

41 years on Highway 3

Muff-It Muffler opened at 400 Highway 3 S. in 1985, according to Better Business Bureau records. Mike Stone owned the family shop from 1986 to 2020, building a reputation for custom exhaust work and brake service.

In an earlier post on the League City Auto & Muffler Facebook page, Stone confirmed the Muff-It chapter is over.

"I'm sad to say Muff-It is closed permanently," Stone wrote. "I used to own Muff-It Muffler from 1986 to 2020 since then I would lend a hand with the previous owners from time to time."

Stone's post indicates at least one other ownership group ran the shop between his 2020 departure and the current rebrand.

Under Stone, Muff-It carried Flowmaster, Magnaflow and Dynomax exhaust systems alongside stock Walker and IMCO parts, according to the shop's former SuperPages listing. The old slogan promised customers that no muffler was too tough and no pipe too tight, inviting them to see Mike if they wanted the job done right.

What's different now

The new operation keeps the same Highway 3 address (League City, TX 77573) but broadens the service list. Where Muff-It specialized in mufflers, custom exhaust and brake work, League City Auto & Muffler advertises diagnostics and major vehicle repairs in addition to exhaust services.

The identity of the new ownership group, any planned staffing changes and updated shop hours have not been disclosed. No grand opening or ribbon-cutting event has been announced. The shop maintains a Facebook page under its new name.
