Attorney Dina Driskill filed for League City Council Position 1 on Monday, Aug. 17, turning the seat into a three-way race heading into the Nov. 3 general election.
Driskill submitted her ballot application at the city secretary's office on the final day of the filing window, which closed at 5 p.m. She paid the $50 filing fee in cash. She will appear on the ballot as Dina (DuBose) Driskill.
She joins Dinah Carpenter, who filed Aug. 13, and incumbent Andy Mann, who has held the at-large seat since November 2022. As we reported Aug. 14, Carpenter's entry had already made the race competitive. Robert Bruce, a paramedic who had filed for Position 1 in July, filed instead for the Position 3 special election on Aug. 17.
Driskill listed her occupation as attorney on the application and reported 25 years and 10 months of continuous residence in the territory from which Position 1 is elected. She resides on Kirkham Lane in League City.
The race is one of six contested items on the November ballot. Mayor Nick Long faces council member Tom Crews, who automatically resigned his Position 3 seat effective Aug. 4 by filing for mayor while more than a year remained in his council term. That vacancy triggered a special election for Position 3, with its filing deadline at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. Julius Segelquist and Robert Bruce have filed for that seat so far.
Voters will also decide Proposition A, a nonbinding advisory referendum on whether the League City Police Department should continue using automated license plate reader cameras on public roadways. Council ordered that question on Aug. 11.
The write-in declaration deadline for the general election races is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. The city will hold a public ballot-order drawing the same day at City Hall, 300 West Walker St.
Early voting runs Oct. 19–30, with a runoff, if needed, set for Saturday, Dec. 12.
