Bay Area Service Teens signed up 137 members for the 2026-27 program year after extending open enrollment past its original Aug. 1 deadline, the organization announced Saturday, Aug. 15.

The teen auxiliary of Bay Area Service League, an all-volunteer nonprofit, draws members from Clear Creek ISD and surrounding communities. Two of its incoming leaders attend Clear Lake High School and Clear Springs High School, and its Birthday-In-A-Box program served students at League City Elementary last year.

The group had already put those numbers to work. On Sunday, Aug. 9, volunteers assembled 1,050 Snack Attack Packs for students facing food insecurity in Deer Park ISD, La Porte ISD and Texas City ISD, according to the organization's website.

Each pack contains a microwaveable meal, a sweet snack, a salty snack and a drink. Packs are delivered to authorized school district staff and distributed discreetly to students identified as homeless or food insecure.

The Snack Attack Packs program is part of BAST's broader Basic Kneads initiative. During the 2025-26 year, teen and adult volunteers assembled 9,450 meals for the same three districts.

Teens leading the work

Ethan Haile, an incoming senior at Clear Lake High School, serves as Vice Chair Membership for the 2026-27 year. Haile plays tuba in the school band and bass guitar in the Jazz Band and previously served as a Teen Liaison for Snack Attack Packs. In a June profile published by Bay Area Service League, the organization said Haile joined seeking service hours but found a deeper connection to community through hands-on programs.

Alivia Newberry, an incoming senior at Clear Springs High School, serves as Vice Chair Resource Development. Newberry is involved in competitive art, the Technology Student Association and NASA HUNCH, and volunteers at Space Center Houston.

A year of giving back

Beyond Snack Attack Packs, Bay Area Service Teens ran several other programs in 2025-26: Birthday-In-A-Box delivered 280 party kits to at-risk students at League City Elementary, McWhirter Elementary, K.E. Little Elementary and San Leon Elementary. Cause for Paws assembled 450 pet adoption kits for Bay Area Pet Adoptions in San Leon and the Pasadena Animal Shelter. Notes for Folks produced 325 cards for residents at Discovery Village Clear Lake.

In all, the teens logged 3,411.5 volunteer hours between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026. The broader Bay Area Service League organization logged 33,226.75 hours in the same period, valued at an estimated $1.2 million based on the Independent Sector's rate of $36.41 per volunteer hour.

Enrollment for the 2026-27 year is now closed. Families with questions can reach Bay Area Service League at [email protected] or 281-554-2594. The organization's next public event, the Just a Pretty Table fundraiser, is scheduled for April 29, 2027.
