League City-area children in foster care can start the school year with full backpacks if neighbors pitch in before Monday, Aug. 3.
CASA of Galveston County is collecting school supplies through an in-person drive and an Amazon Wishlist, the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce announced on X on Sunday, July 26. The nonprofit asks donors to contribute by the Aug. 3 deadline so supplies reach students before classes resume.
The organization served 250 children experiencing foster care due to abuse or neglect in 2025, according to CASA of Galveston County's website. It recruits, trains, and supervises community volunteers who are court-appointed to advocate for those children's best interests. The nonprofit is headquartered in Texas City but serves kids across Galveston County, including League City.
Every donation counts.
CASA has a visible local footprint. Twelve new volunteers were sworn in by Judge Jamie Rawlinson in February 2026, and the organization held a volunteer appreciation event at Butler's Courtyard in League City in September 2025. In May 2026, CASA of Galveston County received a $60,000 national grant from the National CASA/Guardian ad Litem Association to strengthen its support for local children in the child welfare system.
