Clear Falls gave up 28 unanswered points in the first half and lost 49-24 to Dickinson on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Challenger Columbia Stadium.
The loss dropped the Knights to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in District 18-6A, according to Clear Falls' schedule on MaxPreps. Clear Falls sits fifth in the district with one regular-season game left.
Dickinson (6-3, 6-0) clinched its fourth consecutive district championship with the win, as first reported by The Daily News. The Gators had already beaten previously undefeated Barbers Hill and Deer Park in the two weeks before Thursday's game. The win was Dickinson's sixth straight, according to The Daily News.
The Knights looked ready to compete early. After Dickinson's Cedric Brown opened the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown run just 1:31 into the game, Clear Falls answered. A fumble recovery gave the Knights a red-zone possession. Three plays later, quarterback Reid Jeffrey hit Graysonn Sneed on a 15-yard touchdown pass to tie it 7-7 with 5:33 left in the first quarter.
That was the last time Clear Falls held even.
Dickinson needed just 53 seconds to retake the lead. A 48-yard juggling catch by Ja'Marion Payne set up Brown's 1-yard scoring run, making it 14-7. The Gators pushed it to 21-7 before the first quarter ended on a trick play. Lorenzo Aguirre connected with Isaiah Gray, who threw a 22-yard double-pass touchdown to Brown.
Aguirre, who finished 17-for-26 for 226 yards, then led a 12-play, 73-yard drive capped by a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jayse Washington. That made it 28-7 early in the second quarter. Brown's fourth touchdown of the half, an 18-yard reception from Aguirre, stretched the lead to 35-7 with 2:27 left before halftime. Brown finished with 16 carries for 94 yards and four receptions for 71 yards.
Clear Falls opened the second half with a drive inside the Dickinson 10-yard line. But Braeylon Bradley's second sack of the game helped push the Knights back. Agustin Loredo salvaged a 44-yard field goal to make it 35-10.
Dickinson's Tavin Gomez, who ran 14 times for 163 yards, broke free for a 54-yard touchdown. Clear Falls' Chace Rieman answered with a 58-yard touchdown reception down the sideline. Rieman finished with five catches for 126 yards. The score stood 42-17 after three quarters.
Kamdon DaPron scored on a 1-yard run five seconds into the fourth quarter to put Dickinson up 49-17. Clear Falls backup quarterback A.J. Parker threw a 32-yard touchdown to Noah Vidal with 3:27 remaining for the final margin.
Jeffrey finished 15-for-25 for 216 yards in the loss. Vidal added three receptions for 93 yards.
Dickinson head coach John Snelson told The Daily News he was proud of his team's focus. The Gators also earned the right to host their bi-district playoff game.
Clear Falls closes the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Deer Park, which entered the week 4-1 in district play.
