League City voters will decide their next mayor Tuesday, Nov. 3, choosing between incumbent Nick Long and Council Member Tom Crews.

Election results are pending. This article will be updated as election officials release vote totals. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. at eight locations across the city, according to a city election notice. Galveston County will post returns at galvestonvotes.org.

The Race

As we reported Oct. 2, the two candidates frame the job differently despite sharing similar priorities around growth, infrastructure and public safety.

Long, 43, is a consultant who has served four years as mayor and eight years on the council. He said this would be his last term and pitched continuity. He pointed to what he called a 40 percent property tax rate reduction during his time on the council, a 24 percent increase in police spending and $500 million in infrastructure investment, according to the League City Herald's earlier coverage.

He said the completion of the Grand Parkway will trigger League City's "last major growth cycle" and argued his experience makes him the right person to manage it.

Crews, 54, is a certified public accountant with 28 years of experience and a U.S. military veteran. He ran on accountability, saying he wants government that "listens, asks questions, and remembers who it works for," according to the Herald's Oct. 2 report. His priorities include fiscal responsibility, transparency and infrastructure upgrades such as LED street lighting and improved water and sewer systems.

League City mayors serve four-year terms and can run for one additional consecutive term, according to city records. The position is volunteer with an annual stipend.

Crews filed for mayor on Aug. 4. That filing triggered his automatic resignation from the Position 3 council seat under the Texas Constitution because more than one year and 30 days remained in his term. He continues to serve as an interim holdover until a successor takes office.
