Bay Area Service Teens kicked off a new year of its Birthday in a Box program, assembling celebration kits for elementary students who might not otherwise mark their birthdays.
The League City-based teen volunteer group confirmed in an Oct. 31 post that the program continues for the 2026–2027 year at "select elementary campuses" through the Communities In Schools – Bay Area (CIS-BA) initiative. CIS-BA is a dropout prevention organization serving at-risk youth in the Houston Bay Area.
Through Birthday in a Box, teen volunteers assemble gift bags after membership meetings. Each bag includes cupcake supplies, a gift and a handwritten card, according to the Bay Area Service League website. The bags go to CIS-BA students whose families may not have the resources for a birthday celebration.
During the 2024–2025 year, volunteers assembled and delivered 280 bags to CIS-BA students at League City Elementary and McWhirter Elementary in Clear Creek ISD, and K.E. Little Elementary and San Leon Elementary in Dickinson ISD, according to a Bay Area Service League summary published in June 2025.
Bay Area Service Teens is the all-teen auxiliary of Bay Area Service League. Members volunteer from September through April, meeting at Saint Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church. The group held its first meeting of the 2026–2027 year on Sept. 27.
The Oct. 31 post did not specify which campuses or how many kits the program will produce this year.
