League City families are on the clock: Clear Creek ISD students head back to class Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Dickinson ISD students follow on Thursday, Aug. 13.
The dates, confirmed by both districts' board-approved academic calendars and highlighted on the city's official August Events & Reminders list published Tuesday, July 28, mark the end of summer for roughly 38,000 CCISD students across 45 campuses, plus Dickinson ISD students across town.
CCISD: Transition day first, then all grades
CCISD's youngest and newest-to-campus students get a head start. Pre-K, kindergarten, sixth-grade, and ninth-grade students report Tuesday, Aug. 11, for a transition day before the full student body arrives Aug. 12, according to the district's approved 2026–27 academic calendar.
The first semester runs Aug. 12 through Friday, Dec. 18. The second semester picks up Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2027, and ends Thursday, May 20, 2027.
As we reported Tuesday, CCISD is navigating a projected $23.4 million budget shortfall heading into the new year. The board has scheduled a public hearing on the fiscal year 2026–27 budget and proposed tax rate for Monday, Aug. 24.
Dickinson ISD: First bell Aug. 13
Dickinson ISD's board-approved calendar sets Thursday, Aug. 13, as the first day for all students. The school year runs 171 student days, ending Thursday, May 27, 2027.
The district said on X on Tuesday, July 28, that campuses are scheduling Meet the Teacher events, school supply drop-offs, orientations, and open houses ahead of the first day. Families should check their campus for specific dates.
Enrollment and community fair
New families moving into the Dickinson ISD attendance zone can still complete enrollment paperwork online through Skyward, which opened July 21.
Dickinson ISD and the M.I. Lewis Social Service Center are co-hosting a Back to School Community Fair on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is open to DISD students from Pre-K through high school and includes school supply assistance and the Dickinson Education Foundation Book Bus.

CCISD's budget public hearing is set for Monday, Aug. 24. League City's City Council also meets Tuesday, Aug. 11, and Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers for meetings and budget workshops the same week school starts for both districts.
