Clear Springs steamrolled Clear Brook 52-15 on Friday, Oct. 23, at Challenger Columbia Stadium in a District 18-6A game that keeps the Chargers in the playoff hunt.
Across town at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Clear Creek shut out Clear Falls 7-0 to earn its first district win of the season.
Both games carried playoff weight for League City schools deep into the district schedule.
Clear Springs entered the night at 3-4 overall and 2-2 in district play, according to the Galveston County Daily News Week 9 preview. The Chargers had rallied from a 13-3 halftime deficit to beat Clear Falls 17-13 in Week 8 and needed to keep winning to stay in contention. They left no doubt against a Clear Brook squad that came in 1-6 overall and 0-4 in district.
The 52-15 margin was the most lopsided result of the night among League City teams. Clear Brook had lost six straight entering the game, including a 50-34 loss to Clear Lake in Week 8, the Daily News reported.
Clear Creek's 7-0 victory told a different story. The Wildcats came in 1-6 overall and 0-4 in district after opening league play against the top four teams in the 18-6A standings, according to the Daily News. That stretch included a 38-14 loss at Deer Park in Week 8. Against Clear Falls, the Wildcats' defense delivered a shutout to get Creek in the win column.
Clear Falls entered at 3-4 overall and 2-2 in district. The Knights had been looking to bounce back after blowing a 13-3 halftime lead in their Week 8 loss to Clear Springs. Instead, they were held scoreless.
Elsewhere in District 18-6A on Friday, Dickinson beat Deer Park 49-28, according to CW39 score compilations. Deer Park had entered the week unbeaten at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in district.
