Lloyd R. Ferguson Elementary earned the top spot among League City schools in the 2027 U.S. News Best Elementary Schools rankings, placing No. 608 out of 4,782 ranked campuses statewide.
The school on Compass Rose Boulevard scored 87.28 out of 100. That puts it in the top 13% of all ranked Texas elementary schools.
Ferguson's students outperformed both the Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) and state averages on 2023-24 state assessments. Sixty-eight percent scored at or above the proficient level in math, compared with 57% districtwide and 44% statewide. In reading, 71% hit proficiency, versus 62% for the district and 51% for Texas. The school's math performance rating was "well above expectations."
The school serves 700 students in pre-K through fifth grade with 40 full-time teachers, all of whom are certified. Its student-teacher ratio is 18-to-1.
All 10 ranked League City elementary schools earned U.S. News badge eligibility for academic performance. Here is how they placed statewide:

- Walter Hall Elementary — No. 771 (score: 83.85)
- Ralph Parr Elementary — No. 775 (score: 83.79)
- Henry Bauerschlag Elementary — No. 791 (score: 83.48)

- James H. Ross Elementary — No. 1,441 (score: 69.86)
- I.W. and Eleanor Hyde Elementary — No. 1,715 (score: 64.15)
All 10 are part of CCISD, which serves about 39,684 students across 46 campuses. Districtwide, elementary students averaged 62% reading proficiency and 57% math proficiency, both above the state marks of 51% and 44%.
The rankings weigh four factors equally at 25% each: math proficiency, math performance, reading proficiency and reading performance. Half the formula measures raw scores; the other half factors in socioeconomic demographics, according to U.S. News.
The academic results arrive as the district navigates budget strain. CCISD board member Arturo Sanchez said at a July 13 board workshop that stagnant state funding puts the district's standards at risk. In coverage published in August, Community Impact reported Sanchez told the board, "We are looking at potentially negatively impacting things that set us apart that make our district attractive." The district projected an $18.4 million shortfall for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
