Galveston County property owners face a Nov. 30 deadline to make their first half-payment on 2026 taxes after the county mailed more than 135,000 statements.
The county Tax Office's deadline notice lays out two paths. Owners can pay in full by Feb. 1, 2027, with no penalties or interest. Or they can split the bill, paying half by Nov. 30 and the balance by June 30, 2027.
Property owners whose mortgage companies handle taxes through escrow will not receive a mailed statement.
Installment option for qualifying residents
Tax Assessor-Collector Cheryl E. Johnson's office also outlined a four-installment plan. Seniors, people with disabilities, disabled veterans and property owners affected by governor-declared disasters can spread payments across four deadlines: Feb. 1, March 31, June 1 and Aug. 2.
The county did not specify which disaster declarations currently qualify property owners for that plan.
How League City residents can pay
The League City/North Annex office at 174 Calder is the closest payment location for most League City residents. It is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Payments can also be made online at galcotax.com by e-check for a 50-cent fee or by credit or debit card for a 2.2% fee. A toll-free phone line, 1-800-420-1663, accepts payments with the same bank fees.
Residents who mail payments to 722 21st St. in Galveston should drop them in a U.S. Postal Service mailbox before the last pickup of the day to secure a timely postmark.
Yellow drop boxes sit outside all full-time county tax offices. Payments deposited before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, will be credited as received Nov. 30, The Galveston County Daily News reported.
