League City homeowners will see a slightly lower county tax rate on their next property tax bill after Galveston County commissioners unanimously adopted the FY2027 budget and 2026 tax levy on Monday, Sept. 14.
The five-member Commissioners Court set the county tax rate at $0.32406 per $100 of assessed value. The Galveston County Daily News reported the new rate is down from the current rate of almost 32.6 cents per $100. For a home valued at $100,000, the county portion of the tax bill would drop to $324.07, the Daily News reported.
The county tax rate is one of several levies that appear on League City property tax bills, alongside the city's own rate and those of the school district and other taxing entities. League City is the most populous city in Galveston County, so the rate change touches thousands of local households.
The county expects to collect about $152.7 million under the adopted rate, according to the Daily News.
A public hearing on the budget drew zero speakers. It opened at 9:40 a.m. and closed one minute later, according to county meeting records. The full meeting adjourned by 9:45 a.m.
Commissioners also approved $1,125,000 in certified revenue for the Galveston County Sheriff's Office participation in the federal ICE 287(g) program, a task force that allows local deputies to perform certain immigration enforcement functions. The County Auditor certified the amount.
The court approved two engineering agreements. Landtech, Inc. will handle the South Kemah Drive project. Compass Environmental Solutions, LLC will lead drainage improvements on Ave B, Reppert Street and Miles Road.
Commissioners separately voted 5-0 to approve an interlocal agreement between Galveston County and the Galveston County Health District for shared services. The court also authorized the creation of positions tied to that agreement. As we reported Sept. 15, the county recently voted to take over health district operations.
Other approvals included an interlocal agreement to partially fund road improvements within the Village of Tiki Island using road bond money. County personnel salary adjustments take effect Sept. 24.
