League City needs about 323 more blood donors to break its own record, and the next chance to help is two weeks away.

The city is hosting a community blood drive on Tuesday, August 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, 400 W. Walker St. The drive is run in partnership with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, a Houston-based nonprofit blood center.

Through seven drives so far in 2026, League City residents have saved 678 lives through blood donations, according to a city announcement published Sunday, July 26. The goal: surpass the 2025 record of just over 1,000 lives saved in a single year.

That 2025 milestone didn't come easily. In October of that year, the city's official social media account posted a plea that it was "falling short" of the 1,000-life target. The city ultimately reached the milestone by year's end.

With three drives left on the 2026 calendar, the math is straightforward. League City needs roughly 323 more donations across the August, September, and October drives to set a new mark.

Every donor at the August 11 drive will receive a free puffer tote bag and a voucher for a free pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream, the city said.

Residents who can't make August 11 have two more chances: Tuesday, September 8, and Tuesday, October 13. Both drives will also be held at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center.

Donors who give blood at any Gulf Coast Blood location can still have their donation count toward League City's goal by using donor code 6806 at the time of their visit. Those donors will also receive a free gift, according to the city.
