League City Council will decide Tuesday, Sept. 8, whether to adopt a $333 million budget and lock in the property tax rate for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1.

The vote is the second and final reading. Council unanimously approved the first reading at its Aug. 25 meeting, according to a city announcement. The proposed tax rate is $0.36355 per $100 of assessed value, unchanged from the current rate but below the 2024 rate of $0.369.

For the average League City homestead, valued at $362,634, the proposed rate works out to about $1,318 in city property taxes, according to council records.

City Manager John Baumgartner laid out the adoption timeline at the July 14 council meeting. He said he and other staff members were available for individual briefings with council members ahead of the vote, adding that "any council member wants an individual meeting to talk about things that are in the budget."

The proposed General Fund budget calls for $112.6 million in revenues and $114.1 million in expenditures. The League City Police Department accounts for roughly $30 million of those general fund expenses, Community Impact reported.

The budget also adds 7.75 new positions, including a senior crime analyst, two paramedics, two emergency medical technicians and parks and recreation staff, according to the July 27 budget workshop. The city estimates property tax revenue of $41.19 million for the General Fund and $7.6 million for the Debt Service Fund.

The city's estimated taxable property value for 2026 stands at $13.20 billion.

Residents who want to speak at Tuesday's meeting must sign up on a sheet outside the council chambers at 200 W. Walker St. before the meeting begins. Speakers must state their name and home address. The work session starts at 5 p.m., with the regular meeting at 6 p.m.
