The League City Fire Department earned the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold achievement award for its cardiac and stroke emergency care, the city announced Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The national program recognizes EMS agencies that deliver fast, research-based treatment to patients suffering severe heart attacks and strokes. The department also landed on the AHA's Target: Heart Attack Honor Roll and Target: Stroke Honor Roll, which track how quickly EMS teams and hospitals move patients from first paramedic contact to hospital treatment.

League City was one of 624 agencies across the country to receive a Mission: Lifeline EMS award in 2026, according to an AHA announcement published Aug. 5. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, the AHA reported.
