Firefighters and community members climbed the equivalent of 110 stories on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Clear Creek Veterans Memorial Stadium, honoring the 343 firefighters who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

The League City Volunteer Fire Department (LCVFD) hosted the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the stadium at 2305 E. Main St. The event ran from 8 a.m. to noon, six days before the 25th anniversary of the attacks. Participants scaled the equivalent height of the World Trade Center towers, according to a city announcement. The climb was open to the public, with attendees welcome to walk, climb or watch.

Mayor Nick Long said on X that the event drew "a great turnout comprising of firefighters from throughout the area and various local service organizations."

The LCVFD also held the stair climb in September 2025 at the same stadium. The 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks falls on Friday, Sept. 11.
