League City's 148-acre Clear Creek Nature Center is set to reopen Sept. 21 after roughly $120,000 in renovations funded by the city's Capital Improvement program.

The Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center, at 1220 N. Egret Bay Blvd., closed Aug. 31 for a new restroom and rebuilt bird blinds. The city posted a closure notice stating the park could reopen sooner if crews finish ahead of schedule.

The Park Operations Department flagged both structures for replacement after completing its annual parks assessment in 2025. Sarah Osborne, public information officer for League City, told The Daily News that "staff determined that the bathroom had reached its life expectancy as did the bird blinds, and that both needed to be replaced."

The old restroom is being swapped for a larger prefabricated concrete unit that had already been delivered to the site as of Wednesday, Sept. 9. All three bird blinds along the park's 1.3-mile trail are being demolished and rebuilt.

The park sits on the south shore of Clear Creek and draws migratory-bird watchers year-round. Its amenities include picnic tables, a pavilion, a Monarch waystation and a pollinator garden.

This marks the second closure in recent years. The park shut down in summer 2023 for a water-line project that stretched into 2024, installing about 17,000 feet of pipe between booster pump stations on State Highway 3 and in South Shore Harbour. Before that, the city removed invasive Chinese tallow trees in 2019 after the species began choking out 12 acres of native coastal prairie.

The nature center was established in 2005 through a land acquisition funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the City of League City, Galveston County and the Galveston Bay Estuary Program.
