Residents looking for hands-on access to welding equipment, laser cutters, pottery wheels, and woodworking tools don't have to drive to Houston. Creatorspace, a nonprofit makerspace at 144 Park Ave., Suite 300, in historic downtown League City, gives members access to industrial and craft equipment for a monthly fee.

The 501(c)(3) organization offers seven disciplines: welding, laser cutting, electronics, woodworking, pottery, sewing, and jewelry-making, according to its website. Houston Public Media's "Houston Matters" program on 88.7 FM featured a visit to the space on Tuesday, July 28.

Membership started at $40 per month for adults 18 and older, according to the organization's archived pricing page. A household add-on was listed at $20 more per month, bringing the total to $60 for two people in the same home. Members who need storage could reserve a 2-by-2-by-2-foot space for an additional $10 per month, and a private workspace was listed at $40 extra. Prospective members should confirm current rates directly with Creatorspace, as the live website does not display pricing.

The membership unlocks half-price classes, access to all tools in the space, invitations to member-only events, and dedicated work sessions on Monday evenings. After a vetting period, members can request 24/7 access to the facility.

Creatorspace holds a free public open house every Tuesday at 7 p.m., giving prospective members a chance to tour the space and see the equipment before committing. The next scheduled open house falls on Tuesday, August 4, per the organization's weekly Tuesday pattern.

The organization has operated in League City since at least 2017, according to its archive site, and focuses on making technical and artistic tools approachable for beginners.
