League City residents can get rid of old paint, dead batteries, TVs and other household hazardous waste for free on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Hometown Heroes Park.

The city's fall drop-off event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1001 E. League City Parkway, according to a city alert posted this month. The city is partnering with AmeriWaste to handle the collection.

There is one catch. Residents must bring both a driver's license and a recent water bill as proof of residency. The city says both documents are required to participate, and the event is open only to League City residents.

What you can bring

The city's official Instagram post lists the full rundown of accepted items:

  • Paint and paint-related materials
  • Household cleaners
  • Pool chemicals
  • Aerosol cans
  • Batteries (no rechargeable batteries)
  • Electronics, including TVs, computers and monitors
  • White goods free of Freon, plus microwaves
  • Tires (limit of four)
  • Fluorescent bulbs

Containers should be sealed and in their original packaging. Leaking containers should be placed inside a larger, non-leaking container before drop-off.

What stays home

Several categories are banned from the event:

  • Automotive fluids such as oil, antifreeze and brake fluid
  • Hazardous chemicals not in their original container
  • Business or commercial waste
  • Medical waste, including pharmaceuticals, sharps and needles
  • Radioactive waste, ammunition and explosives
  • Compressed gas cylinders
  • Smoke detectors

If you miss Sept. 12

League City's agreement with AmeriWaste provides two drop-off events each year, one in spring and one in fall. The spring event already took place March 14. The Sept. 12 collection is the last free drop-off of 2026.

Residents who miss it can haul certain items to the Stella Roberts Recycling Center in Pearland at 5800 Magnolia Parkway, according to the city's hazardous waste program page. League City residents pay $1.50 per pound for paint and household chemicals and $5 to $15 per television there.

AmeriWaste also offers curbside pickup for TVs, electronics, microwaves and appliances. The next pickup window runs Nov. 9–14. Residents must call AmeriWaste at 281-585-3200 between Oct. 12 and Oct. 31 to get on the list.
