League City is spending more than $10 million on road and drainage projects across the city, with three already under construction and two more in the design phase.
The largest is a $6.1 million reconstruction of Butler Road and Turner Street. Crews are replacing asphalt with concrete pavement and upgrading storm sewers, sidewalks, water lines and sewer lines, Community Impact Newspaper reported Oct. 26. Turner Street is open to traffic, according to Community Impact, and the city expects the full project to finish in late 2026 or early 2027. The work is funded by city reinvestment funds.
The city's project page shows Butler Road paving nearly complete and sidewalk work underway near the fire station at Turner Street and Hobbs Road, though the page's most recent dated update is from January 2026.
In the Historic District, a $2.14 million drainage project along Wisconsin Avenue, 3rd Street and 4th Street aims to reduce flooding. The city is installing 24-inch and 26-inch pipes and storm boxes underneath existing roadside ditches, according to Community Impact. Contractor Lucas Construction has been backfilling an 8-foot-by-8-foot precast concrete storm box, with a 36-inch pipe continuing upstream, according to the city's Wisconsin project page. Water main installation along Wisconsin resumed in mid-May 2026 and was halfway complete at that time. The project is slated for completion in early 2027, funded by the city's capital improvement funds. Marcos Garcia, senior project manager, is the city contact for the project.
A new traffic signal is going in at Maple Leaf Drive and League City Parkway. Construction started in late September under a 210-day contract, with completion anticipated in spring 2027. Community Impact listed the cost at $725,926, funded by capital projects funds. The city's intersection improvements page lists a broader capital improvement budget of $1,396,806 for the intersection, which also includes exclusive northbound and westbound right-turn lanes beyond the signal. As of an Oct. 12 update, the contractor had removed one row of crepe myrtles from the median of League City Parkway east of Maple Leaf Drive, leaving one row intact. Crews had begun cutting pavement and removing old curb on Maple Leaf south of League City Parkway.
Two intersection improvement projects remain in the design phase. At FM 518 and Bay Area Boulevard, the city plans to add a southbound right-turn lane and extend the northbound left-turn lane from 135 feet to 350 feet. Community Impact reported the cost at $628,428 with construction starting in summer 2027. The city's own page lists a budget of $647,598 and an anticipated construction start of January 2027 with completion in May 2027. Community Impact reported design at 60% completion; the city page showed 30% completion as of March 2026. Both require a permit from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Community Impact also listed a State Highway 3 at FM 518 intersection project with an identical scope, cost and timeline as the FM 518/Bay Area Boulevard project. The city's intersection improvements page does not appear to list a separate SH 3/FM 518 project. It is unclear whether these are two distinct projects or a duplication in the reporting.
Work on all confirmed projects is expected to wrap by mid-2027 or sooner. Residents with questions about the Wisconsin drainage work can reach Garcia at 281-554-1486.
