A new private school on Highway 3 South is betting that League City families want something screens can't deliver: hands-on learning, field trips, and no classroom technology.

The Learning House of League City opened its doors in mid-July and will begin instruction Tuesday, Aug. 11, according to the school's website and Facebook page. The K–2 school at 1911 Highway 3 South plans to add one grade per year until it reaches eighth grade.

Dr. Cameron Chavez-Dodson, the school's founder and head of school, said the idea grew from nearly 20 years working in both public and private education.

"I wanted to build a place where children feel safe to try, safe to fail, and safe to grow," Chavez-Dodson wrote on the school's "Meet the Head of School" page, published in April.

She described wanting a school where teachers can slow down or challenge students based on individual needs rather than system-wide constraints. Chavez-Dodson called the school a reflection of what she wanted for her own child.

The approach centers on what the school calls "technology-free teaching," emphasizing hands-on projects, real-world application, and frequent field experiences instead of screens and devices. The website lists the school's motto as "Academics, Experiences, Skills for Life."

The mid-July opening preceded the August 11 start of classes. Community Impact Newspaper first reported the opening on Tuesday, July 28, noting that staff confirmed the school had opened its doors. The school's website went live around Monday, July 20, just over a week before that report.

As of late July, the school still had a few seats available for its inaugural class, according to a post on the school's Facebook page. Tuition figures are listed on the school's website but were not available in text form at the time of publication.
