The League City Police Department is investigating a crash on Interstate 45 near Exit 19 after a Dickinson officer pulled a driver from a burning vehicle early Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Officer Brown of the Dickinson Police Department responded after multiple 911 calls reported a major crash at approximately 2:56 a.m., KGTX 7 News reported. When Brown arrived, he found fire coming from the vehicle's engine compartment and the driver still seated inside.

The driver was the vehicle's only occupant.

As Brown checked on the driver, the fire began spreading rapidly from the engine into the passenger compartment, according to the Dickinson Police Department. Brown pulled the driver from the vehicle and dragged him away to safety.

The Dickinson Police Department said Brown's quick response helped protect the driver's life. KPRC 2 also reported the department praised Brown for his courage at the scene.

Investigators later determined the crash occurred within League City's jurisdiction rather than Dickinson's. The case was turned over to LCPD, which is now leading the investigation into what caused the crash.

Authorities have not released information about the driver's condition or identity. The cause of the crash also remains unknown. Dickinson police said no additional details were being released because of the ongoing investigation.

LCPD had not issued a public statement about the crash as of Friday, Sept. 4. The department has not announced a timeline for releasing findings or any scheduled update on the case.

The crash occurred on a stretch of I-45 that runs through League City, a corridor familiar to residents commuting between Galveston County and Houston. Exit 19 sits within LCPD's patrol area, which is why the investigation shifted once the jurisdictional boundary was confirmed.
