Six candidates have officially filed to run for League City office in the Tuesday, November 3 general election, with the filing window open through Monday, August 17.

The race for Council Position 1 is already contested. Gordon Bethel, a regional director who has lived in the League City area for more than 24 years, filed his application on Friday, July 24. Robert Bruce, a paramedic, filed for the same seat on Tuesday, July 21. The seat is currently held by Andy Mann, who has not filed as of Tuesday, July 28.

Mayor Nick Long filed for re-election on Monday, July 20, paying a $100 fee. Long, a consultant who has lived in League City for more than 33 years, announced his campaign the same day on X, citing a nearly 40% reduction in the city's property tax rate during his 12 years on council and investments in public safety, drainage, and infrastructure.

Three others filed on July 20: Tommy Cones, a retired firefighter with 45 years in the area, for Position 2; Sean Saunders, the current mayor pro tem and a captain/paramedic, for Position 7; and Sean Doyle, a banker who has lived in League City nearly eight years, for Position 6. Doyle is a challenger; the Position 6 seat is currently held by Chad Tressler, who has not filed.

All five seats on the ballot are at-large, meaning council members represent the entire city rather than individual districts. Members serve four-year terms and may seek one additional consecutive term in the same office.

The council authorized the election contract with the Galveston County Election Officer on Tuesday, June 23, approving Resolution No. 2026-114. A runoff, if needed, is set for Saturday, December 12.

To qualify, candidates must be U.S. citizens, at least 21 years old, and League City residents for at least one year before the election, according to the city's official filing notice.

The filing deadline is Monday, August 17, at 5 p.m. Applications can be submitted in person at the City Secretary's Office at City Hall, 300 West Walker St., by email to [email protected], or by fax at 281-554-1020. Candidate packets are available at leaguecitytx.gov.
