Clear Creek ISD families who homeschool, juggle competitive sports schedules or simply want a self-paced option now have a tuition-free public school alternative that starts when classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 12.

The district announced Aug. 6 the launch of Clear Tech, a full-time virtual program built in partnership with Texas Tech K-12, the university's online education division. Students in grades 3 through 9 can enroll for the 2026-27 school year, with additional grade levels added annually.

The key detail for families: enrolled students remain CCISD students. That means they keep access to district-issued technology, school counselors, college and career planning, extracurricular activities, clubs and school traditions. Coursework is asynchronous and taught by Texas-certified educators using the state's Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum, but students follow the CCISD academic calendar.

"Our partnership with Texas Tech K-12 allows us to meet students where they are while keeping them connected to a vibrant public school community that prepares them for lifelong success," Superintendent Dr. Karen Engle said in a statement.

Texas Tech K-12 Superintendent Robert Bayard said the partnership gives families flexibility without sacrificing academic rigor or student support. His division has offered accredited online education for more than 30 years and announced a similar partnership with Lubbock ISD on Aug. 3, suggesting the model is expanding across Texas districts.

Clear Tech is aimed at four groups: homeschool families seeking an accredited public school option, students balancing demanding athletic or performing arts schedules, families looking for greater scheduling flexibility and independent learners who thrive at their own pace.

CCISD, which serves more than 38,000 students across 46 campuses, first publicized the Clear Tech partnership in March and accepted initial applications through a May 15 deadline. The district's program website lists details, FAQs and future enrollment information for families who missed that window.

Classes across CCISD begin Wednesday, Aug. 12.
