Clear Springs can clinch playoff berth Friday

Clear Springs can punch its ticket to the playoffs Friday night with a win over Clear Lake at Challenger Columbia Stadium in League City.

The Chargers enter the District 18-6A matchup at 4-4 overall and 3-2 in district, winners of two straight in league play. In UIL Class 6A, the top four teams in each district qualify for the postseason, and a third consecutive district victory would formally clinch a spot for Clear Springs.

The Chargers' offense has been rolling. Clear Springs posted its highest-scoring game of the season Oct. 23, a 52-15 rout of Clear Brook. MaxPreps credited the Chargers with 345 rushing yards in that game.

Clear Lake (3-5, 1-4) arrives at Challenger Columbia after surrendering a season-high 73 points in an Oct. 22 loss to Barbers Hill, James LaCombe of The Galveston County Daily News reported. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Clear Falls hosts Dickinson in Thursday test

The Knights face the steepest challenge of the three League City schools this week. Clear Falls (3-5, 2-3) hosts Dickinson (5-3, 5-0 in district) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Challenger Columbia Stadium.

Dickinson has beaten every district opponent it has faced, including back-to-back wins over previously unbeaten teams. The Gators topped then-6-0 Barbers Hill 55-42 before knocking off then-7-0 Deer Park 49-28, the Daily News reported.

Clear Falls is coming off a 7-0 shutout loss to Clear Creek. A loss to Dickinson would drop the Knights to 2-4 in district with one regular-season game remaining.

Clear Creek eyes second straight win

Clear Creek (2-6, 1-4) looks to build on its first district win of the season when it hosts Clear Brook (1-7, 0-5) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in League City.

The Wildcats snapped an 0-4 district start with that 7-0 shutout of Clear Falls. Clear Brook has lost seven consecutive games, including the 52-15 defeat to Clear Springs.
