League City residents looking to help local students start the school year with full stomachs have a new drop-off option beginning Friday, July 31.

Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton of League City is partnering with Communities In Schools - Bay Area, a nonprofit that has served students in both districts since 1989, to collect snack food donations for students in Clear Creek ISD and Dickinson ISD. The drive runs through Friday, Aug. 7, with a drop box inside the hotel at 2320 Gulf Freeway South.

Donors can bring snack items between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily during the weeklong collection.

The timing is tight. CCISD students return to class Wednesday, Aug. 12, with Dickinson ISD starting Thursday, Aug. 13, meaning the drive wraps up just five days before the first bell rings.

Snacks join a wave of back-to-school giving

The drive focuses on food insecurity, a distinct target from other back-to-school efforts across the area. Bay Area Service League's clothing program launched Friday, July 31, for the same two districts, and CASA of Galveston County is collecting school supplies through a Tuesday, Aug. 4, deadline.

No specific wish list of snack items has been published. The League City Chamber of Commerce listing calls for "snack donations" broadly.

Clear Creek ISD serves more than 38,000 students across 45 campuses. The drive was listed through the Chamber, indicating the hotel is a chamber member.
