Three city departments are now working together to catch code violations before neighbors have to file complaints.

League City announced Tuesday, Aug. 18, that its Neighborhood Services Pro-Active Taskforce combines Neighborhood Services, the Fire Marshal's Office and the Building Department into a single team targeting nuisance conditions, dilapidated structures, unpermitted construction and stormwater problems across the city.

The goal: fix it before it gets worse.

The city said the taskforce emphasizes education over punishment, working with property owners to resolve issues before formal enforcement action begins.

An official League City sign warning that a building is unsafe to occupy, posted on the property under city ordinance.

What the taskforce targets

The city listed these common violations the team will address:

  • High or overgrown grass
  • Trash and debris
  • Stagnant water
  • Vehicles parked on grass
  • Junk vehicles and watercraft
  • Building without a permit
  • Fence maintenance issues
  • Tree limbs encroaching on sidewalks, streetlights and street signs

Several of those items overlap with stormwater and drainage concerns the city has identified as priorities. Stagnant water, debris and unpermitted grading can all contribute to localized flooding.

How to report a violation

Residents who spot a problem can:

  • Dial 311 from within League City
  • Submit a request through the Citizen Request Tracker at leaguecity.com
  • Call Neighborhood Services directly at 281-554-1480

The announcement did not specify whether the taskforce conducts proactive neighborhood sweeps on its own schedule or responds primarily to resident reports. It also did not include data on how many cases the team has opened since it began operating.

The city published a video alongside the announcement showing the three departments working together in the field, educating property owners on what compliance looks like on their own property.
